Octant rules
- You have to guess what's in the picture in least number of attempts. Each picture has one correct answer. You have a total of 9 incorrect attempts.
- Ranked List: Apart from one correct answer, there are 8 related words ranked according to the degree of closeness to the correct answer (AI generated and manual intervention). This list is called ranked list. The closest word to the correct answer is at the top in the list, and the second closest word, second in the ranked list and so on.
- If you guess one of the ranked list words, that guess will not be counted as an incorrect attempt and an octant (one-eighth of a circle) will be unblurred as a part of clue.
- Note: Not all the octants have same amount of information. In this example (scroll down to the last image), you find that octant 3rd reveals the maximum amount of information i.e the statue, which is what the picture is about. Hence it is the most "information dense octant."
- The higher the word is in the ranked list, the more information dense octant will be unblurred to fast-track you towards the correct answer.
- Connected List: Apart from ranked list, there is another list called connected list. It is additional set of words (more that 30 words) that are related to ranked list words (could be synonyms, or variation, eg. [sea-> lake, river, ocean, pond], or [tourist-> tourism, sightseeing, explore, travel]). If your guess a word that is in the connected list, that attempt will also not be counted and a blue pop-up box will appear to notify you to try more words like that. Guessing these words do not unblur the picture.
- For each guess that is not in ranked list and connected list, one attempt will be counted towards incorrect attempt.
Here is an example. (octant numbers are given for understanding)

This looks like a natural landscape with greens and blues. A good starting guess would be "ocean" or "sky" or "mountain"
If you write "ocean", the following octant will be unblurred.

Similarly, other words such as "mountain," "architecture," "landmark," "statue" would reveal the following octants respectively.
The ranked list for this picture would be:
- Statue
- Landmark
- Tourism
- Monument
- Architecture
- Mountain
- Ocean
- Sky
The word "statue" is top ranked word as this is what the picture is about. Hence, it reveals the most information dense octant, i.e octant 3rd. Similarly, "landmark" octant 4th, "tourism" octant 5th, "monument" octant 6th, "architecture" octant 7th, "mountain" octant 8th, "ocean" octant 1st, "sky" reveal octant 2nd (decreasing order of amount of information in that octant).
Clearly, if you guessed "statue" (which is closest to the correct answer) initially, the probability of you guessing the correct answer in next step would be high.
As soon as you guess the correct answer, in this case: "Christ the redeemer" , all octants are revealed.
